I currently have an Angel game on and they are winning. I am enjoying.
We have a tendency to find a particular way to do things and then comfortably stay there. It does not matter if it is how we drive to work, how we use a certain app or where we go out for dinner. There are reasons that we keep doing the same things over and over. First, as I said, it is comfortable! It can even feel a bit safer. We know the rules. We know what we like. There is no stress or strain.
But there is also no growth, nothing to challenge us. Okay, I hear your argument, “But if it makes me happy, why do I need the stress of a challenge?!” Well, several reasons. Research has shown that the more that our brains are challenged with unique situations, the healthier it is and the decreased chance we have of developing dementia! Obviously, this is a really good reason to try new things!
But there are other reasons as well. For instance, there may actually be a better way to do things than the way that you always do things. It might be more effective, more efficient, even more fun! We know, for example, that doing the exact same workout is not good for our bodies. We need to change it up to have our muscles do different things. That increases strength and health. Our minds are no different!
So, today, drive to work a different way. Try a brand-new app. Talk to a new person. Order something different off the menu! You might find more growth but even more important, you might really enjoy it!
